Peoria, IL. President of Nicaraguans for Security and Prosperity, Rafael Estrada, met with former presidential candidate and current incumbent senator for the state of Florida, Marco Rubio.
Estrada and Rubio had a brief conversation regarding the crisis in Nicaragua. Senator Rubio and Mr. Estrada discussed the Ortega regime and the exile of Nicaraguan citizens and journalists. Senator Rubio has been a longtime friend of the Nicaraguan people and has supported continued Senatorial Resolutions supporting the Nicaraguan people.
According to a press release from the Senator’s office in 2018, «U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ben Cardin (D-MD) and U.S. Representative Albio Sires (D-NJ) in expressing continued concern amid the growing crisis in Nicaragua».
Senator Rubio also was the sponsor of S.Res.556 which is a resolution reaffirming the commitment of the United States to hold the Ortega regime accountable for acts of violence and human rights abuses perpetrated against the Nicaraguan people.
Mr. Rubio agreed that he will continue his fight for the Nicaraguan people and will work across the aisles to gain momentum for the movement for a free Nicaragua in the Senate.
